Well I think the southwest Kansas weather has finally hit and we can expect some hot and windy days to come. Summer is now almost halfway done and I can’t believe we are almost too Invitational weekend. Wow doesn’t the golf course, golf shop, menu, pool, and especially the “New Carpet” in the lounge all look exceptional? Please if you see Eric, Doug, Ryan, or Colton tell them how good of job they are doing because they deserve the recognition.
June is done and July will kick off with the 4th of July Party and many other wonderful events for the membership to enjoy. July will bring us the 54th Men’s Invitational, Denim and Diamonds Club Auction, 2nd Annual Club Tennis Tournament, Ladies Club Championship and the Parent Child Event. Please remember that space is limited in these events and if you haven’t signed up or bought tickets yet please do so soon so soon so we can ensure you a spot in the event of your choice.
I would like to inform the membership of some staffing changes. Colton Hager has been promoted to Bar Manager. Please contact Colton directly with any ideas to for a new wine list or liquor you may enjoy at the club. Also Courtney Dennis has been promoted to the Club Secretary. This will ensure that if you call the club during office hours you will get the same person every time. Courtney will assist the membership with information on upcoming events, reservations, and any other information to help the membership better utilize the Dodge City Country Club.
Please remember to make a reservation when you know your dining at the club so we can make your dining experience the best it can be. Also don’t forget to make a tee-time when you want to golf as we continue to get very busy.
Please stop by the club and say hi when you are available and try to make a few of our member events if possible. As always our website is updated weekly with all of the latest events here at the Dodge City Country Club. Thanks again for choosing to be a member and remember to pass your satisfaction of the club along to your friends and family because Dodge City Country Club is again the place to be.

Continue to Promote the Club,

Dear Members,

As the summer is flying by with fun and excitement we still have more to come. We will start the month off with a Flag Tournament on Independence Day. I expect a lot of play for this weekend, so if you will please make a tee time everything will run smooth. Also the big tournament is here. The Men’s Invitational is scheduled for July 11th-13th.  There will be some fun events and great golf that weekend and I would like to encourage you all to come out to watch. The following weekend will be the ladies club championship. Ladies please call the golf shop to sign up. We will end the month with the Junior Golf Parent Child on the 27th.

I would like to recognize a couple of members for the excellence on the golf course. One huge goal of many golfers is to shot their age and Danny Hays has done that for his 1st time. Danny shot a spectacular round of 77 in the 2nd round of the Club Championship. Congratulations Danny Hays. Also Frank Goedeken holed out for an eagle on 16 and no he did not use his putter.

See you on the course,

Here we go, I believe the heat will be turned on to the point that it might feel like you’re in a furnace.  The grass has escaped some time with the occasional rain to get through June still holding up well.  The rains have definitely come at great times, if I could only ask for a few more through the month of July!!
In June we started with a great Pardner Shootout, Ladies Invitational, Men’s Club Championship and had an extremely good tournament when we hosted the Kansas Golf Course Superintendent Association tournament for Research.  I wanted to thank everyone involved with it, it was a great time to get many Pro’s, Managers, Superintendents and Vendors to come out and play this course.  Everyone was extremely impressed and thought that we have a great place to play.  So again thanks to everyone that helped out.
Well if you have been out on the course, many of you have seen the “super bunker” on #15 fairway has been converted over to a grass swell.  This bunker was one that required extra maintenance on a daily basis, so we decided it would look much more aesthetically pleasing to have grass planted.  As golf clubs, balls, and players abilities continue to get better, this bunker was rarely getting used and like I mentioned earlier was a maintenance nightmare.  I was able to purchase a few trees for that area thanks to the long overdue tree fund donations from Kyler and Barb Knobbe and JB and Teri Glassco.  These trees will someday create a much more precise shot down the fairway instead of cutting the corner.

This early part of July is the prep time for the 54th Men’s Invitational, my guys and I will be putting in the hours and hard work to make this tournament another success.  This time of the year is a love/hate relationship because of the hours we put in and the many details completed, it all turns out great when guys walk away from the course and say, “Wow”.  I have received many complements this year and wanted to thank my entire crew for the job they have done, if you see them around you please let them know that they are very much appreciated.
July is another time of the year we as homeowners need to make a preventative application of grub control.  If you are unsure what kind, I would highly recommend anything with Merit.  Merit has a curative feature and has a long residue to last through the grub season.  If for some reason you miss this application and you get grubs later in the year, about your only option is with Dylox.
If you would like to donate a tree(s) for the Living Legacy tree fund, please email me and we can get one planted.  Trees are going to be vital for keeping the integrity of this course and adding much more color for years to come.

With that its time to water, so we’ll see ya out and about!

A proper grip will reduce your tendency to slice your golf ball. A good grip helps keep the club head square at impact.

Your grip should have a relaxed and comfortable feel. A tight grip will hinder your rhythm and release.

The biggest problem I see is people getting the club in the palm of their hands and not their fingers. Thinking of the top of your club as a clock with 12:00 being a square club face to the target, get your heel pad of your left hand to wrap over to about 1:00. Wrapping your 4 fingers underneath the club, with your thumb down the right-center of the shaft. If done correctly you will make the letter “V” between your thumb and forefinger (pointer). That letter “V” should point to your right shoulder.

With your right hand you have a life line going down the middle of your palm, you should use that part of your hand to cover the left thumb.

If done correctly you should make another letter “V” between your thumb and forefinger. That “V” should also point to your right shoulder. Now your hands will work together instead of against each other.

Connecting your hands together is also important. The 3 ways to do this is:

Interlock - Putting your right pinky finger between your left forefinger and middle finger.

Over-lap - Putting your right pinky finger on top between your forefinger and middle finger.

Ten Finger (baseball) - Putting all fingers on club together. This is not a grip I recommend except to persons with small hands or juniors. If you do choose to use this grip be sure that both your hands stay together and not separate them.

If the first time you try this grip and it feels uncomfortable its probably correct. After a little while it will feel normal and you will be on your way to solider, straighter golf shots!

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Members:

Summer activities are in full swing and our weather has become “normal” for southwest Kansas.  Ryan and his crew should be commended for their efforts in maintaining the grounds and golf course in the best condition that I have seen since I’ve been a member.  He’s obviously figured out how to fool Mother Nature!

We were disappointed with the swimming pool coming out of hibernation and she showed her appreciation by forcing the heater to quit.  Ryan and Cole, along with some good advice from a club member, are working to resolve that problem and potentially improve the overall maintenance and cleaning the pool requires.

Anticipation is building for the Club’s benefit auction, “Denim and Diamonds” scheduled for the evening of July 18.  This inaugural event is creating quite a stir and we hope to have huge turnout.  Let the bidding begin!

The economy is having an effect on all us but I would like to point out the wise decision you made to become a member of the Club.  Without traveling, you can enjoy a variety of activities so please remember you already have a vacation spot here in Dodge City!

Doug Moore, President

Chef Notes

Hello Members,
Well here we are at the middle of the year.  June was a very good month we had a lot going on.  The Pardner Shootout was a great success, Fathers day was great we with a strong brunch turnout.  Lobster special weekend was a great big success, but please when we have specials like lobster get your reservations in so I can properly order  the quanity of food needed, if reservations are made late we either have to turn it down or go to greater expense to get more.

July is looking to be a great month already with the 4th of July is coming up, the Invitational is the weekend of 11th -13th.

On the 19th is our own DCCC Auction, come on out and bid on some wonderful items, have some great food and socialize with everyone.  We encourage all members to come on out.  I am working on a wonderful menu, and can’t wait to see everyone there.

If you have any feedback about the food, service or any concerns please let Cole, or Chef Eric know your concerns positive or negative, so we can make the Club a better place for you to come and eat and socialize.
