PARDNER SHOOTOUT RESULTS

Summer is here at the Dodge City Country Club and the club is buzzing.  This season I believe will be our best yet.  We have a few new events planned and of course all of the favorites.
Last week we had a meeting in the ballroom to discuss the details of a new capital campaign.  The turnout was wonderful and we heard a lot of good ideas.  The details of this meeting are available for anyone that is interested.  Please contact me and I will forward you the packet of information handed out that evening.  We will host another meeting in late June or early July so please look for a reminder card in the mail and I hope everyone can attend.
Unfortunately Bernie Herrera, our F & B Director, has moved on to New Mexico to seek new opportunities so I will continue to look for his replacement.  Joan Hendrickson is back once again to run the pool so if you see her out and about please show your appreciation as she does a wonderful job.  Joan also will be teaching swim lessons again starting with Session I June 17th-27th and Session II June 30th-July 11th.  Our tennis program is already off and running with Rachel Burney and Hope Stein leading the show.  The junior lessons start June 2nd-13th and end with Session II July 7th-18th.  We will once again have adult play sessions, a tournament, and a family fun day event.  Please contact Hope at 255-4991 or Rachel at 253-5701 for more details.
As of Tuesday June 3rd 2008 the Dodge City Country Club Clubhouse facility is now smoke free.  The Board of Directors adopted this policy at there regular meeting on May 27th.  Please be patient with us as everyone adjusted to the smoke free environment.  There will be designated smoking areas outside the club entrances.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
Please remember to make a reservation with you know your dining at the club so we can make your dining experience the best it can be.  Also don’t forget to make a tee-time when you want to golf as we continue to get very busy.
Please stop by the club and say hi when you are available and try to make a few of our member events if possible.  As always our website is updated weekly with all of the latest events here at the Dodge City Country Club.  Thanks again for choosing to be a member and remember to pass your satisfaction of the club along to your friends and family because Dodge City Country Club is again the place to be.

Continue to Promote the Club,

Dear Members,

Summer is here and the course is as beautiful as ever. In June Men’s and Women’s match play will start. Also don’t forget about Ladies night on Tuesday, Scotch Sixsome on Wednesday, and Men’s Night on Thursday’s.  The Beginner ladies group has really grown.  If you are interested in learning golf in a non intimidating approach please join us on Tuesday nights at 6:00.

This month brings us the Ladies Invitational on June 7th, Junior Invite on the 18th, and to finish the month we have the Men’s Club Championship. Please contact me in the golf shop for any question or to sign up for these events.

Thank you all for the great participation in the club events. As all you golfers have seen we have been getting lots of play on the weekends. So remember to make a tee-time when you want to play golf.

I would like to congratulate Leigh Crotts on his 1st hole in one on number 8 in our Night Golf Event.  We our looking to schedule another night golf later this summer. If you did not have a chance to play in this one please don’t miss the next. We had a great turn out and a wonderful time.

Have a great June and we’ll see you on the course,

Well can you believe its June already?  Before we know it the summer will be over with!!  I wish and hope the summer is a mild one, even though we haven’t started out with normal temperatures and conditions.  Along with golf, baseball, tennis and swimming I am sure most of you will have an active summer, I just hope the weather cooperates with us all and the wind quits blowing sometime soon!
Well for the month of June we hope to get passed the erratic growth pattern of the grass and we can one day maintain the same height for more than one day.  If you have played I want to first apologize for the rough, every time we mow, we have been cutting off at least 2 inches leaving behind a messy surface, but I hope it will soon subside.  We are cutting it at normal height and have been on a day and a half rotation trying to keep up with it but with the weather, fertilizer and being healthy sometimes this isn’t a bad thing going into the hottest part of the year.  The fairways, tees and greens are looking great, this year I have been amazed with the coverage we have on all the fairways and tees creating a great lie anywhere on the surface.  For the greens, we finished up an important practice by verticutting and lightly topdressed them to smooth any uneven areas and reduce the bumpiness left behind from aerification.  If the wind would ever quit blowing someday soon we can get the needed fertilizer and nutrients it has been wanting for some time.   One important message I would like to address is the need to continue fixing divots with sand and fixing ballmarks on the greens, this is an important time to allow the grass to fill in before the heat sets in and slows everything down.

This month we have some great tournaments lined up with the Pardner Shootout starting off the month of June, the Ladies Invitational on the 7th,  followed up by the KS Golf Course Superintendent Research tournament and Men’s and Jr. Club Championships.   If there is any one that could possibly help out with the Monday June 16th tournament, your help would be much appreciated. This event will generate great press for the Dodge City Country Club, as many clubs and golf courses will bring in their best to play the course for the ongoing research and scholarship opportunities given by Kansas State University.     Even if you’re not a Wildcat fan, the research they do can only make golf courses across the country better.  If you would be interested in donating silent auction items, please let me know as quickly as you can via email.  If you would like to help out the day of the tournament, let Cole or Doug know a few days prior and again I appreciate all the help you might bring.
The grounds crew has begun the summer with another great staff lined up.  Most of the guys have been here before and have had a lot of good experience, so this summer should be another good one with them.  Please stop and tell them that they are much appreciated for the efforts they put into keeping your course in great shape.

We’ll it’s the summer season so we’ll see ya out and about,

Rhythm is one of the most important areas of the golf swing.

With it, you can get away with many swing faults and still hit some reasonable golf shots. Without it, you are a walking time bomb. Disaster is just around the corner.
Good rhythm starts with good practice habits.

1. When practicing swingat about 80% of your power. Change your clubs regularly. Hit no more than 10 - 15 shots with any one club. The more balls you hit with the same club the more inclined you will be to try to hit a little further, increasing the chance of a loss of rhythm.

2. If you are having trouble gaining rhythm, try to count in your head, during the swing, like 1,2,3,4 in a regular beat, much like a metronome. Some of my students have found it easier to say the word back on the backswing and through on the downswing. Once again with a regular smooth, beat.

3. Another way of improving your rhythm is to let one hand control your entire swing. If you are right handed let the right hand control the swing.

4. Have you ever noticed how well you seem to hit the ball if you go and play after watching a golf tournament on television? This happens because you have an imprint of good rhythm in your brain. The same effect can be achieved by watching a tape of a golf tournament with the sound turned down. Or even better a Sybervision tape featuring Al Geiberger.

5. Practice your golf swing with your eyes closed. This enables you to feel your swing better as there are no visual distractions. You are more aware of changes in speed or jerkiness in your swing.

6. Do the following exercise every day. Find a quiet spot and close your eyes. Try to visualize and feel what your best swing is like and try to do 5 of these swings in your head. Now focus only on your clubhead, and watch the speed your club head as it travels through the swing. When it is traveling at the right speed, duplicate it 5 times.

Follow these steps and you should see an improvement in your rhythm immediately.

Chef Notes

Hello,

We hope everyone had great time over the Memorial Day weekend and hope everybody was safe.  We had a really good month in May, despite having some real challenges with weather.  The lounge is starting to see more golfers and don’t forget about our specials and if you can’t stay for dinner order something TOGO.  Mother’s day was a great success.  June is looking to be strong with golfing and dining.  There have been a lot of members asking when we are going to have lobster on special, so on June 20th and 21st I will be running lobster tails as a special.  So call and make reservations if you’re interested in lobster.  There will be limited number of specials.  Please contact me as I would like some feed back on whether the lobster tails or the whole lobster will wet your appetite.  I will not know prices until closer to the date, due to lobster prices change weekly.  I can be reached at the club or my cell phone 620-253-1025.

I am working on a special menu for the DCCC Auction coming in July.  There will be action stations, butler passed appetizers and much more.  We would love to see you come and enjoy the festivities.

Remember that if you are planning on dining at the club, please make a reservation so we can properly staff for the night.  We are working diligently to reduce costs all over the club, culinary is getting charged fuel surcharges for every order that comes into the club, plus food costs are going up about an average of 5-7% per month due to the fuel costs.  That is on top of the fuel surcharges of $6-7 dollars per delivery.  So with all the extra costs we are trying to keep costs in line.
I would love to here any feed back you have about the club whether it is good or constructive critism.  That is the way we learn and grow.  Please let us know what we can do to make your experience better.
