The Holiday season is upon us and the New Year will be here before we know it.  We have a busy next couple of months scheduled here at the club so please call and make reservations if you know ahead of time that you will be dining at the club.  We have planned some wonderful events for November and December.  Thanksgiving feast, surf and turf, and Small Office Christmas Party are some of the highlights.  Please take a look at the upcoming events so everyone can take advantage of all the amenities of the DC Country Club.

November brings Sunday Night dining back to the club.  The lounge will be open until 8:00 pm on Sundays serving a limited version of our lounge menu.  We will also bring the ever popular hamburger special back starting Sunday November 9th.
Last month I announced that we were looking for a new golf course superintendent.  Although we had over 30 applicants we didn’t have to look too far to hire Jeff Kippes.  Jeff comes to DCCC from Southwind Country Club in Garden City where he was the Head Superintendent for 8 seasons.  Jeff has been on staff now for ten days and has been busy familiarizing himself with the golf course.  If you see a new face around the club please say hi and make Jeff feel welcome.

Finally I want to remind all of the members that we want to host your next meeting, anniversary, birthday, or Christmas party.  Please give the staff at DCCC an opportunity to make your special event a success.  As always remain positive as the club continues to strive and remember to promote the club.

Sincerely,

Cole Wasinger

I want to start out by thanking everyone for giving me the opportunity to be your golf course superintendent.  It is an honor and a privilege to be here at Dodge City Country Club.  Here is a little bit about myself.  I have been in the golf course industry for over 15 years, having worked in Kansas City for six years and most recently at Southwind Country Club in Garden City for the past 8 years as the golf course superintendent.  My family consists of my wife Stephanie of 5 years, daughter Riley 3 years old, son Connor 3 months old, and my sidekick Bunker, who goes to work with me everyday.  Hopefully we can be moved over here to Dodge City before the New Year.

As for the course, I have just completed my first week on the job and the weather hasn’t been all that good for getting a firm game plan as to what needs to take place on the course. Hopefully by the next newsletter I will have a better understanding of the projects that need to be completed, both short and long term.  I will be doing some investigations on the bunkers to see what kind of work needs to be done to them, as well as some irrigation projects that were in the plans from years past.  As for the short range maintenance of the course, the staff and I will be putting down some late fall fertilizer to the greens, tees, and fairways.  The soil tests that I took a couple of weeks ago look pretty good, so we should be prepared for the unpredictable Southwest Kansas winters.  We will also be mulching some of the leaves up so it won’t be too hard to find those balls that don’t always find the fairways.  Hopefully the weather will stay warm enough so I can meet many of you on the course this month.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Dear Members,

I would like to remind everyone again that all golf shop credits will expire December 31st of this year. Stop in and check out our selection of winter apparel and other great winter items to keep you warm. We also have great items for stocking stuffers and other Christmas gifts. Yes I said Christmas. Isn’t that hard to believe the holidays are here already. We will be having a sale sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so keep your eyes and ears open. There will be deals that can’t be beat.
At the end of this month you will see the 2009 golf schedule. I have some great new ideas with Junior Golf and other Golf Events. I wish all of you a GREAT NOVEMBER AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Please take note that the golf shop does not open until 9:00 am.  The winter can be very challenging to stay busy so stop in and say hello.

Swing down the slope

On a downhill chip, always choose the most lofted wedge in your bag. Take a wide stance for stability and align your shoulders parallel to the angle of the slope. Make a normal backswing with your arms, then swing down, continuing the club head down the hill well after impact. The ball will come out lower and hotter than normal, so play for more roll.

Chef Notes

Greetings from the Culinary Staff,

Can you believe it Chef Eric has been here a year, what a year it has been and looking forward to making 2009 as successful as 2008.

October has been a good month; Oktober fest went well had some good response to it.  Seafood buffet was a great success.  But when we have specialty nights like that it is imperative that reservations are made with in 48 hours so I can properly order the appropriate amount of food and we can properly staff.  We will not longer take any reservations for special events closer than 48 hours out, for these types of events I order food according to reservations, so please make them early.

Coming up in November not a lot going on but of course at the end of the month we are having our Thanksgiving Feast coming up.  Please make reservations early.  Thanksgiving will be a lot of the traditional fare and a few new items; we will post the menu soon.  Then coming up in the first weekend of December is the small office party, which the menu will be posted soon.  December will be a busy month with New Years Eve, Christmas and holiday parties, we are excited and getting ready for the busy season.
By now you have noticed that we have made a few changes to the menu, we have taken a few items off that just don’t sell.  Food prices are still holding steady I am hoping with the fall in gas prices that costs will start to come down, we are doing our best to keep the same quality of product and keep prices reasonable.

We would like to congratulate Cole and Neely and there new happy and  healthy baby girl.
